I’m Joel MaHarry. I’m a seasoned creative and brand strategist. I’ve got 20+ years experience specializing in campaign creative, identity, and brand and digital content. I started out working for big agencies in Boston, New York and Silicon Valley. But as I worked my way up the ranks I found I missed the hand’s-on part of creating and collaborating. So I left that world to start my own thing. My goal then, and now, is to work with brands and clients I believe in.

The battle and balance between free speech and censorship has been commanding headlines and stirring protests in Brazil for months. I worked with Amigos Do Brasil, a civil rights coalition, on an outdoor and social media program to advocate for free speech rights in the face of potential government crackdowns.

Mothers Against Drug Deaths
Working with Mothers Against Drug Deaths has been one of the most meaningful and impactful projects of my career. MADDs is a San Francisco-based coalition of parents who’ve lost children — through addiction, homelessness or death — to the fentanyl plague that’s overwhelmed cities and communities nationally. I teamed up with lead agency Underground Advertising to develop a program, including out-of-home and social media, that has been featured in broadcast, print and online media around the world. To date, our program has generated over $25 million in publicity for MADD2. More importantly, it’s shaken a complacent, complicit city administration, compelling the mayor, DA and police department to take concrete action in shutting down the open air drug markets that serve as a magnet for people from around the country.

Sadler’s Smokehouse
Sadler’s Smokehouse is a beloved artisan barbecue brand located in Henderson, Tx. I planned, wrote and designed a social media program that supported the company’s first-ever foray packaged BBQ that folks could pick up at their grocer’s. See more of the program here.
